Vice Chair Introduction: Cassidy Chansirik

Hi everyone! My name is Cassidy Chansirik and I will be one of your vice chairs for ICPO! I am a first year hoping to major in Legal Studies and am currently pursuing a minor in Education. This is my fifth year in MUN, so I definitely know what it's like to be a delegate (positions papers and all!).

I am currently a mentor to a sixth grader at Willard Middle School through the Youth Support Program and am also a research assistant in the Design for Equity Lab, which focuses on researching pedagogies to improve instructor teaching and student achievement. As you can see, I really love education, and hope to go into public policy with a concentration in education.

Both inside and outside of school, I'm a huge foodie. I am constantly snapchatting food and looking up new places to try on Yelp. So, if you ever need recommendations, just let me know! I also love to travel, and just went to Thailand over winter break, where I got to meet an elephant and take a cooking class!

Soccer Player Imprisoned on Red Notice

It seems that countries love to use red notices on athletes. Remember the red notice issued against NBA player Enes Kanter? Well now, Bahrain has issued a red notice against Hakeem al-Araibi, a defender for the Australia's Pascoe Vale Football Club. Imprisoned for over two months in Bangkok after being arrested during his honeymoon, al-Araibi has now been released. The red notice against al-Araibi was first issued by Bahrain, on accounts that the soccer player had been convicted and sentenced in abstentia on accounts of "terrorism-related offenses." The Bahraini government has also been cited by Human Rights Watch as having a zero-tolerance policy towards political dissidents and free media. It's possible that al-Araibi has spoken out against the government, considering that he resides in Australia under refugee status. The structure of Interpol can be quite confusing, especially considering how many committees and bodies operate under it as a whole. We want to ensure that you are all as prepped as possible in understanding the way in which Interpol functions, which you can learn about  here !
